This marvellous concert was a big success, hugely enjoyed, if from under our umbrellas - the heavens opened for us! Still, the music played on, the RAF Falcons parachuted in, and the fireworks took off over the River Cam. We listened to the music of the King's College Choir, the Lady Gray's Strings and the South Bank Sinfonia featuring soloists Guy Johnston and Magnus Johnston. A heartfelt thankyou to all those who performed and made the evening possible, and to our enthusiastic audience.
We were delighted to present the pianist, Angela Hewitt, in concert at the West Road Concert Hall, Cambridge, at 7.30 pm on Friday 14 October 2005.
Angela Hewitt is a phenomenal artist who has established herself at the highest level over the last few years not least through her superb, award-winning recordings for Hyperion. Her ten year project to record all the major keyboard works of Bach has been described as “one of the record glories of our age”. Her discography includes CDs of Granados, Messiaen, Ravel, the complete Chopin Nocturnes and most recently the second instalment in her series of Couperin recordings. Angela Hewitt was awarded the first ever BBC Radio 3 Listener’s Award (Royal Philharmonic Society Awards) in 2003.

This was an excellent event – Angela Hewitt’s recital was marvellous and moving, and the evening was very well attended. Our great thanks go to Angela Hewitt for her terrific performance and for taking the masterclass during the afternoon, it was an experience the children will always remember. And we want to thank, in particular, the King's family who made this possible, and all the pupils, staff, parents, alumna and friends who supported the event. Thank you, too, to Miller's Music Centre, The Cambridge Pianoforte Centre, and Victoire Press for their generous support.
